Social media is a powerful tool that can be used to promote your podcast and reach a wider audience. By using social media effectively, you can attract new listeners, engage with your existing audience, and build a community around your show. Social media has become so ingrained in today's society that if you are not using it, well, do you really exist? Existentialism aside, social media played an integral part in keeping people connected during the pandemic. New and exciting entertainers emerged, comedians debuted, and the decentralization of content dealt a huge blow to the Hollywood machine. Social media ushered in a new paradigm of entertainment, one that levelled the playing field for everybody.
Here are a few tips for leveraging social media to promote your podcast:
Choose the right platforms. Not all social media platforms are created equal. Consider your target audience and choose the platforms where they are most active. For example, if you have a podcast about business, you might want to focus on LinkedIn and Twitter. If you have a podcast about entertainment, you might want to focus on Instagram and TikTok.
Create engaging content. Your social media content should be interesting, informative, and relevant to your target audience. Share snippets from your podcast episodes, behind-the-scenes photos and videos, and other content that will make your followers want to learn more about your show. It is also important to create content that aligns with your brand. You might notice that I post a lot of ‘dad joke’ memes. Punny and family-friendly content that is aimed at creating a specific wholesome brand. Consequently, you will NOT be seeing me produce anything racy or controversial.
Use relevant hashtags. Hashtags are a great way to get your content seen by more people. When you share your podcast episodes or other content on social media, use relevant hashtags so that people who are interested in those topics can find your content. #podcast #MWSSblog
Interact with your audience. Social media is a two-way street. Don't just post content and then disappear. Respond to comments and questions from your followers. Participate in relevant conversations. The more you interact with your audience, the more likely they are to listen to your podcast. Engaging your audience is a great metric of how well you are reaching them!
Run social media contests and giveaways. This is a great way to generate excitement and buzz around your podcast. Offer prizes that your target audience would be interested in, and promote your contest or giveaway on social media. In fact, one lucky person, who reposts this article on social media will receive a frozen Chicago-style pizza! How cool is that? Get reposting!!!
