Tips for Crafting Compelling Podcast Episode Titles

Your podcast episode title is one of the most important things you'll ever write. It's the first thing people will see, other than the name of your podcast, and it's what will make them decide whether or not to listen to your show. How many Joe Rogan podcasts have you listened too? All of them? Probably not, but you chose to listened to specific ones based on your mood and interests. This is the same idea you need to put into titling your podcast. So it's important to make sure your titles are compelling and attention-grabbing, but be honest in what you will be discussing. Is there nothing worse than scrolling through 20 pages of click-bait to find out that

the title had nothing to do with what you were reading?

With all that in mind, here are a few tips for crafting compelling podcast episode titles:

  • Keep it short and sweet. People are scrolling through a list of podcasts, so they don't have time to read long, rambling titles. Aim for a title that's 50 characters or less.

  • Use keywords. When people are searching for podcasts, they'll often use keywords. So make sure to include relevant keywords in your titles. This will help people find your show when they're searching for content.

  • Be creative. Don't be afraid to get creative with your titles. Use humor, wordplay, or other techniques to make your titles stand out. Make it PUNny! (See what I did there!)

  • Tell a story. A good title should tell a story in just a few words. This will give people a sense of what your episode is about and make them want to learn more.

  • Be specific. Don't just say "The latest episode of my podcast." Instead, say something like "The latest episode of my podcast: How to Start Your Own Podcast." This will give people a better idea of what your episode is about and make them more likely to listen.

If you follow these tips, you'll be well on your way to crafting compelling podcast episode titles that will help you attract new listeners.

Here are a few additional tips for independent podcast producers:

  • Get help from a professional. If you're not sure how to write a compelling podcast episode title, don't be afraid to ask for help from a professional podcast producer. MW Studio Services can help you write titles that will help you reach your target audience.

  • Test different titles. Once you've written a few titles, test them out to see which ones get the best results. You can do this by sharing your titles on social media or by running A/B tests. Like I mentioned in a previous blog: Understanding the Different Podcast Formats use a beta-reader/audience (trusted friends and family).

  • Keep your titles up-to-date. As your podcast evolves, your titles should evolve too. Make sure your titles are always relevant to your content and that they accurately reflect what your show is about.

By following these tips, you can craft compelling podcast episode titles that will help you attract new listeners and grow your podcast audience.
