Alright, you’re starting a podcast. That’s all well and good, but, first things first: you need to decide on a format. There are a few different options out there, each with its own pros and cons.
Solo podcast
The solo podcast is a great option for independent podcast producers who want to have complete creative control over their show. You can talk about whatever you want, whenever you want, and in whatever way you want. This format is also relatively easy to get started with, as you don't need to worry about finding a co-host or scheduling interviews. It’s you and only you. Here I have to suggest you have a beta audience (a trusted friend or family member) to test it against. Having another set of eyes, er–ears to listen to your podcast can help you fine-tune and grow as a presenter.
Co-hosted podcast
A co-hosted podcast is a great way to bring two different perspectives to the table. This format can be especially fun if you have a friend or colleague who shares your passion for your topic. However, it's important to make sure that you and your co-host have complementary personalities and that you can work well together. Working together is one thing, but make sure you have differing opinions otherwise, you are doing yourself and your audience a disservice. Your podcast will be only an echo chamber with no new insights or perspectives for people to discuss or ponder over.
Interview-based podcast
An interview-based podcast is a great way to learn from experts and share their knowledge with your audience. This format can be a bit more challenging to get started with, as you'll need to find guests who are willing to be interviewed. However, it can also be very rewarding, as you'll get to hear from some amazing people and share their stories with the world. This particular form of podcast can be extremely rewarding in that, the use of AI can’t generate the chemistry or interaction between an interviewer and interviewee…not yet, anyway. It is getting close, but not quite. Here’s an example of AI Elon & AI Joe Rogan with some absolutely ridiculous questions: AI Joe Rogan & AI Elon Musk Best Moments - The Athene AI Show (Parody)
Which format is right for you?
The best way to decide which format is right for you is to think about your own personality and goals. If you're a creative type who likes to have complete control over your show, then a solo podcast might be a good fit for you. If you're looking for a more collaborative experience, then a co-hosted podcast might be a better option. And if you're passionate about learning from experts and sharing their knowledge with others, then an interview-based podcast might be the way to go.
